We anticipate a full, exciting, and inspiring year of

programming throughout our seventh season!

ABOUT THE EXPERIMENT

Each year, NYTE's work is framed by a guiding question or topic that

relates to the current cultural moment and amplifies a particular aspect

of our mission. In 2009, with "The   your voice here  Experiment," we

embraced the new day in America and spent a season exploring "the

voice of now” as part of an effort to explore the rapidly changing

present moment that characterized our shifting political and social culture in 2009. In 2010, we embark on "The 2020 Experiment," a deep exploration of the power of vision and perspective. We'll look towards the future, building a vision for our work over the next ten years and inviting our community into the dialogue as we consider the needs, strategies and inspirations that can help guide us all on our creative journeys. We'll also present and develop new works that bring complex issues into sharper focus. We’ll explore how distance, perspective, and time shape our relationship to art and life events – illuminating these extraordinary moments with "20/20 vision." Expect a year of creative offerings that range from moving, provocative and introspective to zany, satirical and irreverent.

“THE 2020 EXPERIMENT” STARTS NOW!

As we look forward to 2020, we'll examine the future of our art form and our role in moving it forward. Tonight, the SOLD OUT Generations Project will kick off our season-long community dialogue on the power of vision, leadership and mentorship in the arts. We'll examine the contributions of visionaries, past and present, and encourage community members to consider their own visions as the next generation of leaders in the American theatre. We're pleased to be joined by a panel of exciting arts visionaries and some of our own personal mentors, including Anne Bogart (Artistic Director of SITI Company), Seth Barrish (Co-Artistic Director of The Barrow Group), Maryellen Kernaghan (former Artistic Director of Plays for Living, an award-winning arts education company), Beth Milles (Professor of Theatre at Cornell University), and Virginia Louloudes (Executive Director of A.R.T/NY).

AND THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING…

Stay tuned for many more announcements about our 2010 season and important dates! The year will feature developmental workshops, our ongoing One NYTE Stands Reading Series, our third annual Great American Pie-Off, a 2010 mainstage production, and more! We'll be developing The Alcohol Project, a new piece by NYTE's Joseph Schultz, originally workshopped as part of our 2009 Summer Camp. And, thanks to the generous support of The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation and the partnership of West Bronx Academy for the Future, we'll be launching an expanded Lift Every Voice program model in 2010, which will extend the reach and deepen the impact of this innovative arts education program. This new model will now include more extensive theatre training, as well as college readiness support, mentoring, and additional leadership opportunities for returning participants.
