Bandit’s Roost first appeared in Riis’ seminal book, How the Other Half Lives. At the time, 59 1/2 Mulberry Street was considered the most dangerous, crime-ridden part of New York City.
59 1/2 Mulberry Street is now part of Columbus Park.
